How to Play Guide

99 Nights in the Forest is an unforgiving survival horror experience that tests your resource management, strategic planning, and combat skills. Unlike typical survival games, the difficulty curve is exponentialโ€”what works on Night 5 will get you killed on Night 50.

The Day/Night Cycle

The core loop revolves around the transition between light and dark. You have approximately 8 minutes of daylight and 5 minutes of night. Mastery of this rhythm is essential.

โ˜€๏ธ Day Phase

Use this time efficiently. Do not idle.

  • Scavenging: Venture away from safety to collect non-renewable resources like Scrap and Medallions.
  • Base Building: Repair walls destroyed overnight. Construction is 2x faster during the day.
  • Farming: Water your crops. Food only grows during daylight.
  • Exploration: Locate the Pelt Trader or hidden bunkers. Shadow monsters spawn less frequently but Bears are active.

๐ŸŒ™ Night Phase

Survival is the only objective. Combat is inevitable.

  • Light Management: Keep your fire fueled. The Deer becomes aggressive if light levels drop below 20%.
  • Defense: Man the walls. Cultists will try to breach your perimeter to steal supplies.
  • Sanity: Staying in total darkness drains Sanity, leading to hallucinations and eventual death. Stand near light sources to recover.

Vital Stats

Managing your character's physiological needs is just as important as dodging claws.

  • โค๏ธ Health
Reaches 0 and you die. Regenerates slowly when hunger is full. Bandages heal 40%.
  • ๐Ÿ— Hunger
Decreases over time and when sprinting. Eat Berries, Meat, or Canned Food. Starvation halts Health regen.
  • ๐Ÿง  Sanity
Drains in darkness. Low sanity causes screen distortion and fake enemy sounds. Restore by standing near Campfire.
  • โšก Stamina
Used for sprinting and jumping. Heavy armor reduces regeneration speed.
