Survival Mastery Guides

From your first night to the final rescue. Expert strategies for every stage of the game.

Beginner's Guide: The First 7 Days

Your first week is the most critical. Most players die on night 3 due to lack of food or light. Follow this strict schedule to survive.

Day 1: The Race Against Sun

  • 0:00 - 4:00: Run immediately to the nearest forest edge. Collect exactly 20 Wood. Do not stop for berries yet.
  • 4:00 - 6:00: Locate a flat terrain or a pre-existing campsite. Craft a Campfire (5 Wood).
  • 6:00 - 8:00: Craft a Map (3 Wood). Scout the immediate area for a water source.
  • Night 1: Stand directly on the fire. Do not move. If you hear breathing, toggle your flashlight.

Days 2-3: Food Security

  • Objective: You will starve by Day 4 if you don't act now.
  • Craft a Farm Plot (10 Wood). Loot seeds from the abandoned cabins (look in kitchen drawers).
  • Upgrade Workbench to Lvl 2. This unlocks the Stone Sword.
  • Hunt rabbits. They are fast but have a predictable pathing. Corner them against rocks.

Days 4-5: First Blood

  • Warning: Cultist Scouts appear on Night 5. They can open unlocked doors.
  • Craft Bear Traps (3 Scrap). Place them inside your door frame.
  • Build "Shelves" and place them as makeshift barricades. They have high HP.
  • Stockpile 20 extra wood for fuel. Rain can double fuel consumption.

Days 6-7: The Expansion

  • Craft a Sundial. Knowing the exact time prevents being caught out in the dark.
  • Locate the Pelt Trader (Random spawn, usually near the mountain base).
  • Trade 5 Rabbit Pelts for an Iron Axe component.
  • Night 7 Boss: The "Stalker Deer". It will charge your fire. Throw a torch to distract it.

Advanced Combat Mastery

Combat in 99 Nights is "clunky" by design. You must exploit enemy AI and hitboxes to survive against superior numbers.

Technique 1: The "Circle Strafe"

Best against: Cultists, Wolves

Enemies track your current position, not your predicted position. By constantly moving in a tight circle around an enemy while swinging melee, you can hit them while their attacks miss your hitbox entirely.
Requirement: High Stamina.

Technique 2: "Door Juggling"

Best against: Bears, The Deer

Large enemies cannot fit through standard door frames. Aggro them, run inside your cabin, and hit them through the open door. If they glitch through, close the door to push them out.

Technique 3: "Light Stun Canceling"

Best against: Shadow Crawlers

Rapidly toggling your flashlight (strobe effect) resets the aggression timer on Shadow entities. This is more battery-efficient than keeping it on constantly.

Base Defense Masterclass

A bad base is a coffin. Use these proven layouts to maximize defense.

The Turtle Shell

Cost: Low | Defense: High

A compact 2x2 grid with double-layered walls.

  • Inner Layer: Reinforced Wood.
  • Outer Layer: Spike Traps.
  • Entry: A "maze" entrance that requires jumping, confusing enemy pathfinding.

The Sky Bunker

Cost: High | Defense: Extreme

Built on top of the "Unbreakable Rocks" near the waterfall.

  • Advantage: Melee enemies cannot reach you.
  • Risk: You are vulnerable to ranged Cultists. Requires "Sandbag" cover.
  • Essential: A rope ladder script (or stacked crates) to enter.

Surviving The Deer

The Night Stalker

The Deer is the game's flagship antagonist. It is an immortal entity that tests your sanity and resource management. It cannot be killed, but it can be managed.

Behavior Patterns

The Deer has 3 phases of aggression depending on the night count:

  • Nights 1-10 (Watching): Steps out from behind trees. Disappears if looked at directly with a light. Drains Sanity if ignored.
  • Nights 11-50 (Stalking): Will actively extinguish campfires. If your fire goes out, it insta-kills the nearest player.
  • Nights 50+ (Hunting): Can sprint. Breaks through wood walls. Requires "Holy Light" flares to repel.

Survival Do's

  • Keep Fire > 50%: It fears intense heat.
  • Buddy System: Never go into the dark alone. It targets isolated players.
  • Listen: A "clicking" sound means it is right behind you.

Survival Don'ts

  • Don't Look Up: On rare nights, it perches in trees. Looking up triggers a jumpscare and massive Sanity loss.
  • Don't Run: Running triggers its "Chase Instinct". Walk backwards while facing it.

Solo vs Squad Playstyles

🐺 The Lone Wolf (Solo)

Playing alone is Hard Mode, but stealth is your advantage.

  • Base: Do not build big. Use "rat holes" or hidden attics.
  • Combat: Avoid at all costs. Use traps to cover your retreat.
  • Perk: Choose the "Runner" or "Stealth" class.
  • Looting: You can keep everything, but carry weight is your enemy.

🛡️ The Squad (Multiplayer)

Strength in numbers, but resource hunger is real.

  • Base: Build a fortress. You need space for 4 beds.
  • Roles: Designate a Builder, a Scavenger, and a Defender.
  • Communication: Call out enemy spawns. "North Wall!" "Deer on me!"
  • Resources: Food depletes 4x faster. Dedicated farming is mandatory.

Bandage Locations

Bandages are rare and non-craftable. Check these high-value locations:

🏥 Medical Buildings

Small white buildings with red crosses. Highest spawn rate.

🏠 Bathrooms

Check medicine cabinets in abandoned houses.

⛺ Campsites

Occasional spawns near tents and ranger stations.

Key Map Locations

The Swamp

Located in the South-East. High danger level due to sinking mud and toxic fumes. Best place to find Medicinal Herbs and rare Poison Frogs.

Campsite Alpha

Central map location. A relatively safe zone with a guaranteed campfire spawn. Good for regrouping but poor looting potential.

Industrial Zone

North-West. Contains the Factory. High spawn rate for Metal Scrap and Electronic Parts. Heavily guarded by Cultists.

The Church

North-East hill. Spawns "Holy Water" (damages shadow creatures). Often the site of frantic final stands during Blood Moons.

Weapons Arsenal

Weapon Type Range Best For
Basic Axe Melee Short Wood gathering, desperation
